Over the past 135 years Colchester High School has built up a reputation for providing an excellent all-round education, an education that not only focuses on academic achievement but also develops character and a strong foundation on which our pupils can build their lives. We are proud to be the one of the top independent co-ed schools in Colchester, Essex.

Colchester High School are passionate about educating and inspiring your child from their early nursery year’s right through to Year 11. Something we have successfully been doing for over a century and counting.

At Colchester High School we believe it’s important for children to want to be here. That’s why we regularly invite parents and children to visit our school.

By visiting us and getting a feel for the surroundings, both you and your children will be able to make a better-informed decision as to whether Colchester High School is the right place for them to learn and grow as a person.

Every term we hold a series of open mornings and other events to give you and your child a chance to look around the school, meet the teachers, talk to our Admissions Registrar, and get a taste of what life is like here.

We guarantee you’ll go away with plenty to talk about – whether it’s the quirky charm of our school buildings, the amazing work on display in our Art room, or the first-class array of facilities we make use of both on and off the school site.

Our forthcoming admissions events are listed below. To book a place, please visit the school website and fill in your information. If none of the dates are suitable, don’t worry – our Admissions Registrar, Kate Cryne, will be glad to arrange a private tour at your convenience. Just give her a call on 01206 217116.

We do things our own way at Colchester High School. We have our own traditions, our own characteristics, our own strengths, and our own – extremely high – standards.

You can see this individuality woven into the fabric of the school itself – with our warm, welcoming classrooms offering a safe learning environment filled with the kind of energy and shared endeavour that you might find in a happy family home.

You can see it in the way that our talented teachers not only bring a wealth of specialist knowledge to the classroom but also share their wider passions and skills with the school community. It’s no coincidence, for example, that our academic strengths extend beyond the core subjects to take in unusual skills such as public speaking – it is a reflection of the individual qualities of our teaching staff.

Most of all, you can see this individuality in our boys and girls, who have the confidence, vitality and strength of character to pursue their own particular blend of talents and make the very most of themselves.

All of this stems from the fact that we are a small, close-knit school, where every individual matters. Everyone looks out for everyone else. And everyone takes pride in each other’s achievements.

That’s the Colchester High School way. It’s a way that really binds our happy little school community together. And it’s a way that gets results. Our motivated, hard-working, well-taught boys and girls thrive at the school, exceeding national expectations at every level, and achieving consistently high performance at 11+ and GCSE.

As you can see, I’m extremely proud of our school and I love nothing more than showing it off to prospective families. Do please arrange to visit us – you’ll be made very welcome.
